ST. FRANCOIS COUNTY, MO (Show Me Live) – A Bonne Terre man was arrested on March 10th after taking deputies on a high-speed pursuit in St. Francois County. Sheriff Jeff Crites says a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle driven by Lucas Wampler, who had a felony warrant issued by the Missouri Department of Probation and Parole.
Wampler avoided apprehension by fleeing south on US Highway 67 before veering east on Highway K toward Ste. Genevieve County. The pursuit reached speeds exceeding 100 mph, and continued passed the intersection of K/C/D Highways, toward Highway 32 in Ste. Genevieve County.
The chase ended after swift response of a Ste. Genevieve County Deputy used stop sticks before Wampler reached Highway 32. Wampler surrendered to St. Francois County Deputies without further incident.
Upon searching Wampler’s vehicle, deputies discovered suspected fentanyl. Wampler was transported to the St. Francois County Detention Center on the existing warrant, and additional felony charges will be sought through the St. Francois County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
